The Wallace & Bruce 700th

Celebrating Scotland’s Heroes: Reputations and New Perspectives, 1305/6 to 2005/6

A conference to commemorate the 700th anniversaries of the execution of William Wallace (1305) and the inauguration of Robert I (1306)

Venue: University of Stirling, Cottrell Building 2V1,

Saturday 18 March 2006.

A conference is being held to celebrate the 700 th anniversary of the execution of William Wallace, the National Hero of Scotland, and the same anniversary (2006) of the inauguration of Robert the Bruce as King of Scots. The idea behind the conference is to explore the changing perceptions of these figures from contemporary times to the present day. In this way, it is hoped that a fuller understanding of these figures can be achieved in both an academic and popular context. Speakers will cover a wide range of perspectives, and will include both postgraduates at the University and established historians such as Archie Duncan, Graeme Morton and David Caldwell, a curator at the National Museum of Scotland.

Funding is available for subsidising student places.  This will be allocated on a 'first come first served' basis and interested parties should contact Nicki Scott in the first instance.

Registration forms can be downloaded Here

The deadline for submission of forms is 10th March 2006. No forms will be accepted after this date since it is necessary to confirm the numbers in attendance.
